TEMPOTEST @ INDEX IN DUBAI

From 14th to 17th November the Parà Group has participated to the show INDEX helded at the Dubai World Trade Center. This is the most important show in the whole Middle East for the interior design. A good stage on an interesting area for the collections Tempotest and for the collection Maria Flora. Despite the global economic situation of crisis, there are still new project coming up in the Middle East area which results in a continuous request of interior design. The independent research company Proleads has estimated that in 2009 in the U.A.E. have been approved projects involving the interior design field for an amount of around 43 billion of dollars, besides projects for the realization of various hotels in the whole zone of the Gulf that will be developed in the next two years for around 140 billion of dollars. Reached its 19° edition INDEX has assumed a leader position in the calendar of the events related to the interior design. A new team has made a research to appraise the demands of the market in order to make the INDEX show more fashionable, recognize worldwide and to increase at the most the opportunities on the market. A "Business Match-Making Programme" has been introduced in the fair. By invitations this programme will match interior designers and clients with the exhibitors. The VIP visitors had the chance to enjoy of a series of benefits such as, a fast-track entry, access to a VIP lounge and a pre-planned meeting with the exhibitors more in line with their demands. All this has been studied to optimize the time and to facilitate therefore the business. Conclusive comment of the manager of the event Lu Buchana has been: "Fundamentally if you thought you knew about INDEX then you had to change your mind! This year the fair has been structured according to the result of a commercial gathering; we have aimed to have an arena where contracts have been signed and where the true business has been like a master on a background of the latest cutting edge designs".

PARA' LEADER OF ENTHUSIAM IN RIMINI

T&T-Tende e Tecnica, the 5th international biennial exhibition of sun-protection systems, closed on Saturday, October 10, with excellent attendance figures, a highly qualified public and, particularly, conveying a clear, sharp, and precise idea that a great economic recovery is possible. The stands, the conventions, and the exhibiting events highlighted great optimism and enthusiasm for what most exhibitors and operators referred to as the crossroads events, where orders were signed and new and old customers were met. While most exhibitors have already confirmed their intention to return, some of them with larger exhibiting surfaces, new potential participants have asked the secretaries for cost estimates for the next edition. T&T-Tende e Tecnica, which lasted 4 days like the previous edition (2007), recorded a 17% increase in the number of visitors (10,758 accredited operators attending), including a 4% increase of foreign ones. The official delegations that visited the halls in co-operation with organizations and institutions –including the Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad – were joined by independent representative groups from 58 countries. During the Fair, it turned out that the economic recovery of the Country must be founded on and achieved through the excellence and variety of services and products, and that the challenge of cutting energy consumptions passes through urban style and the passive air-conditioning of buildings. It turned out that curtains and sun-protection systems perform an integrated function, which includes aesthetics and the micro-climatic regulation of buildings, contributing to a significant extent (sometimes above 50%) to the reduction of cooling consumptions. New low-consumption technologies for outdoor lighting have by now been integrated into urban furnishing and dehors ambiances – and play an outstanding role at SUN in a unique event in the international exhibiting landscape. Moreover, the present production system sees a broad expansion of the use of recycled and environment-friendly materials. This means that top comfort, safety, and choices should be offered to a market that showed, once again, its willingness to invest in quality. A look at the thousands of new products and endless ranges of solutions for outdoor furnishing, playing, sports, bathing equipment, wellness, urban furnishing, suggestions for the entire hospitality pipeline, shadings, and sun-protection systems presented by the thousand exhibitors at SUN and T&T promptly showed that this challenge can be successfully met. With 400 sqm of stand Parà played the roll of leader recognized by all the sector

The fabrics come in 2 different shades of white and blue and are perfect for the luxury (glamour) bracket and nautical purposes. PARA’ AT MOOD IN BRUXELLES FROM 8 TO 11 SEPTEMBER

For thirty years already, you have known the fair as Decosit Brussels. A strong brand indeed. Last year, during the celebration of 30 years of Decosit, it was announced the fair gets a new name: MoOD, short for "Meet only Original Designs". Rebranding is in vogue, but that is not the reason why Decosit Brussels has opted to change its brand name now. This rebranding is not any quick change of course but rather the cherry on top of a gradual evolution that has resulted in a strategic repositioning. You could call it a huge change that feels less like a shock and more like a break-through. From Tuesday 8 September to Friday 11 September, 2009, the fair for the first time takes place only during week days. At Brussels Expo, the traditional place to be , it will take some time getting used to a fair which feels familiar and yet is in more than one way totally different. A new impulse. You will find Parà in the same position of last 30 years: Hall 7, stand C55 D56.

NEXT STOP: RELAX!!

As every year the next July 31 Parà will close for summer holidays and will be opened again at the beginning of September. We are going on holidays where employees and associates will enjoy a deserved period of rest, maybe under a Tempotest® awning, or on a boat decorated with Tempotest® Marine cushions. But the month of August, this year, represents much more than a holiday season. It does represents the separation point between last year, a season influenced to some extent by the uncertain and strained economic climate, and the new challenges we are going to face for the next year. A very difficult season is coming to an end and we won’t forget it easily. During the last months we have learned to adapt ourselves to changing times. We made experience with no fear and we succeeded to face the economical crisis which has marked this historical period. We learned how to be a team proving that Parà is a big family. At our reopening in September many new initiatives are waiting for us and Parà is ready to face them since the beginning by attending some of the most important worldwide events of the sector as a leading actor. We call it enthusiasm !! We call it enthusiasm what gives us the strength to never stop, to develop a better and better quality product, to be a worldwide testimonial of the “Made in Italy” style and quality , to give our customer the best service and to proudly communicate what we have been carrying out to perfection for the last 90 years. As it happens sometimes in life: “when a door closes a bigger one opens”. Meanwhile, I wish you all Happy Summer Holidays. (Paolo Patruno)

TEMPOTEST MARINE AND “YACHT & SAIL” JOIN YOU AT THE DOCK

The promotional venture of “Yacht & Sail” will take place also this summer. During the week-end our hostesses will cycle to the 8 major Italian tourist ports to give all the shipowners a “summer bag”: in it you will find a copy of the magazine “Yacht & Sail” and some leaflets of the partners of this venture. TEMPOTEST MARINE stands out among them. All the 8 ports are historic landingplaces or more recent ones and they are quite crowded especially in summer time. Three ports in Liguria have been selected: on the East Coast Carlo Riva di Rapallo (August 8-9) and Lavagna port (June 20-21) which is the starting point for thousands of pleasure boaters of all the times. Marina degli Aregai has been selected for the West Coast (August 1-2): it is a nice location not far from the French Riviera. Two other major ports of Central Italy will be the scenario for this initiative: Riva di Traiano (July 4-5) and Cala Galera (June 27-28) which has been for years an important location for boat races. On the Adriatic Coast the Summer Tour will also stop at Portoverde (July 25-26) – one of the most important dock of Emilia Romagna – at Marina di Cavallino near Venice (July 11-12) and Marina di Faro, a busy location a stone’s throw from Croatia.

INTERVENTION OF PARA' AT THE "OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE DESIGN" MASTER

Nowadays both private and public outdoors areas are undergoing radical changes. The separation between indoors and outdoors is gradually reducing and balconies, verandas and gardens are becoming an extension of the indoor living style that fluidly adapts to everyday activities. In fact, outdoors are becoming more and more polyvalent spaces which interact with the interior design according to the new lifestyles. The POLY design-Consortium of Milan Polytechnic has established the first Master of Higher education called "Outdoor Experience Design"; it's a new specialization for architects and designers who want to achieve perfection in outdoor design in harmony with the market development and the languages of aesthetics. Being the worldwide leading producer for outdoor fabrics, PARA' has decided to become an Academic partner in this venture and has sponsored this Master. Yesterday, Dott. Marco Parravicini made a speech in the classroom where he explained to the students all the plusses of the acrylic dyed solution fabrics which they will design for sun protection, furnishing and outdoor projects. The students participated actively and asked questions which gave food for though. With this initiative PARA' wants to show its total support to the Academic world together with its interest in the design sector with a particular emphasis on the outdoors.

ART AND SCIENCE OF COOLING WITH SHADE (2nd part)

Simple but ingenious solutions, dating a long way back, have been adopted to keep interiors cool eg: protecting hallways and windows with curtains, and their use is depicted in many paintings as well as their appearance and structure – mounted on frames, metal rods and wooden supports, leather, linen, cotton, mainly plain white or green, or patterned, especially white and red stripes. With the arrival of industrialisation the first specialised factories appeared, also in Italy. Founded in 1921 by Mario Parravicini, Parà is still a family company and produces awnings and furnishings. Ambrogio joined his father in 1961 and runs the company with passion and dedication to quality together with his sons, Michele, Matteo and Marco. The quality of Parà textiles is guaranteed through the close supervision of the whole production process, from spinning to weaving, printing, dying and finishing, which are all carried out in the company’s plants, all in Italy. There is also strict control of distribution on the foreign market, which counts for more than half of total production and covers all five continents. Great care goes into manufacturing and important investments improve the training of personnel and strengthen research and development in order to meet the market’s requirements for innovative and revolutionary products. Parà also takes the social responsibilities of the company very seriously and, in accordance with the Kyoto protocol, has been practising an environmental management policy in order to save energy and control CO² emissions. Synthetic fibres have many characteristics which make them particularly suitable for awnings and they have generally replaced cotton. Every colour and its different tone produce varying effects of refraction, that is. stronger or weaker reactivity to sunrays and transmission of heat and light to the interior, and polychrome streaks have a different appearance when observed from close up or far away. The awning must adhere and harmonize with the façade, the colour of the walls and the architectural style of the building. In fact, most people prefer designs with chromatic interplay in accordance with the same criteria governing aesthetics and mathematics: alternate light and dark bands, tripartition and golden ratio. Proportion, once referred to as “section” or “division in medium or extreme reason” and considered “divine”, is, in fact, in the measurements of geometrical shapes, human, animal and vegetable forms and numerous works of art or architecture, even ancient ones such as the pyramids of Cheope, the megaliths of Stonehenge and the Parthenon. (taken from the article by Maddalena Brunasti which appeared in the May 2009 edition of the magazine “Arredo e Design”

ART AND SCIENCE OF COOLING WITH SHADE

The first studies on what we refer to today as thermal and light balance in buildings date back to the first century before Christ. Vitruvio, superintendent in charge of the war machines of Giulius Caesar and architect-engineer under Augustus, explains in his treatise De Architectura how and why many disciplines must be taken into consideration and used in building projects. Not only geometry and mathematics, but also law, anatomy and medicine because salubrious living quarters are constructed paying attention to light and ventilation, astronomy and meteorology so that the interiors are suited to the microclimatic features of the territory and exposure to the sun. Today scientific discoveries and technological developments enable us to assess precisely the characteristics of the awning. As Sergio Fabio Brivio explains in his book “Tende e Schermatura Solari” (Awnings and Sun Protection) published by Assites, every single feature of the various kinds of fabric can be studied. We can measure the level of resistance and rigidity from the components of the yarn and weight and thickness of the cloth. We can calculate the passage of air and light, the “Openness Factor - OF”, and the capacity to fend off, absorb and block energy from the sun “the sun factor g”. This allows us to calculate the shade coefficient “CS” in relation to the characteristics of the glass protected by the awning. In fact, all the features of a fabric play an important role as regards the optic-light and thermal-energy effects and thus, every influential factor can also be recognised. This information can help us to decide which kind of fabric is better suited to specific uses and requirements. The awning must protect the interior from sunrays which vary in intensity and direction depending on the exposure of the façade – to south, north, east or west. Humidity levels, temperature changes, saltiness and wind are other important considerations. “Colour resistance” to UV rays, which cause fading, is measured on every kind of fabric. Finally, when choosing a fabric, the inhabitants of the house must be taken into consideration because different skin types react differently to sunrays and people with pale irises or eye defects are more sensitive to light than others.

PARA’ SUPPORTS TENNIS

Parà will be present with its brand Tempotest® at the 50th Bonfiglio Trophy. After the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open this most important event for under-18 players is held at the Milan Tennis Club A. Bonacossa. Just two weeks away from the International of Italy in Rome, now it's time for the Junior International of Italy. From Saturday 16th May 2009 the red hard courts of the old Milan club of Via Arimondi will be the scenario for the most talented and promising international and Italian players who will compete against each other to qualify. From Monday 18th May the actual competition will start for both male and female players. This year is a particular one because it is the 50th anniversary of the event. Half a century has passed since the first edition in 1959 when an Italian player won the Trophy. We are talking about Sergio Tacchini, who first won the Davis Cup and then went on to create the worldwide famous sport griffe. This name still sounds familiar to all tennis fans, just like René Lacoste and Fred Perry. And how can you forget the names of those big champions, true legends who played on those courts when they were only eighteen: Borg, Panatta, Barazzutti, Lendl, Courier, Edberg, Kafelnikov, Ivanisevic, Roddick, Nalbandian, Djokovic, but also Roger Federer, one of the biggest champion of all times who, however, didn't win at Bonfiglio and didn't rate very well. Andreas Seppi and Simone Bolelli, two of our best Italian players, also played this tournament. Among the women, we have to remember talented players such as Sabatini, Hingis, Kournikova, Ivanovic, Hantuchova, Dementieva, Petrova, Farina, Schiavone, Pennetta and the present female number 1 tennis player, Dinara Safina. A total of 240 boys and girls from more than 30 countries will be in Milan during the nine days of matches. The entrance to Bonfiglio is free. You cannot miss the opportunity to see young tennis players compete in this big event, which takes place in one of the most beautiful Tennis Clubs in Italy.

PROPOSTE 2009: SATISFACTION AND SERENITY

The 17th edition of Proposte has been closed in an atmosphere of satisfaction and serenity. Parà and Arazzo presented to the buyers, editors, textile distributors, furnishing operators and journalists from all over the world, the new collection. Positano collection of Tempotest Home for outdoor and the designs of June collection have been the protagonist in Parà stand. With a moderate decrease in the number of companies who visited the Fair, Proposte reconfirm itself as the international ad essential benchmark for the furnishing textile industry, even in a period of commercial crisis. Satisfaction because it is a positive result compared with the bud moment of the world economy, and serenity since even this year Proposte has confirmed its role of guide of the entire division. Buyers have chosen this usual appointment with made in Italy, unequalled in the international scenario of exhibitions. The estimate absence of buyers coming from United States, Japan, and among Europe, from Spain, has been brought into balance by the rising participation of buyers coming from Arabic countries, Portugal, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The decrease in the number of visitors was very far from damaging the prestige of Proposte, thanks to the high quality buyers. In a such difficult moment for Furnishing textile industry, Parà is aware and proud to having in Italy a fair that is still the first in the world.

An OUTentico success

The event/exhibition OUTentico sponsored by Para' and organized by SUN and T&T at the Order of Architects' Headquarters, n° 19 Via Soflerino in Milan, was a real success. Extraordinary furnishings styled by young talented outdoor designers and famous international names such as Setsu e Shinobu Ito, Denis Santachiara, Massimo Iosa Ghini, Angelo Micheli, Antonio Bullo, Michela e Paolo Baldessari, with Emu, Campeggi, Fornasarig, Metalmobil, Caimi, Talenti formed a unique and exclusive gallery of prototypes in the courtyard and rooms of the order's headquarters. Authentic articles for the outdoors. Original ideas for OUTentico . OUTentico is a forum dedicated to experimental outdoor design. This special event is: an OUTentico change of course. No matter whether big or small, nowadays the outdoor space reflects more and more the mood, the culture and the personality of its dweller: love of the outdoors bestows inner happiness. Plenty of visitors, journalists, architects, professionals, companies and designers visited the event from 22 to 27 April : in the best and most appropriate location, a selected but numerous and interested public approved the international flavour, understood the extent of a global business and appreciated the new frontiers of outdoor design and experimentation (shape, material, planning, conceptual). This is the secret for success. A unique, amazing and wonderful result. An OUTentico success which reached its climax on the special guest evening of Thursday 23 when the public could listen to Patrizia Pozzi, Denis Santachiara, Fernando and Humberto Campana discussing their experiences.

PARA’ AT PROPOSTE 2009 – CERNOBBIO (CO) 6TH-7TH-8TH OF MAY

Next May 6th, the XVII edition of Proposte, the world preview of furnishing fabrics and curtains, promoted by Ascontex Promozioni and Consorzio Italiano Tendaggio, will be opening at Villa Erba in Cernobbio. In 1993, a large number of the most qualified Italian furnishing textiles industrialists promoted the PROPOSTE fair. What was needed was a specialised and selective fair, which, starting from the consolidated Made in Italy, would highlight the quality and professionalism of Made in Europe: SPECIALISED because the exhibitors are exclusively direct producers of furnishing and curtain fabrics, SELECTIVE because these exhibitors share at least three characteristics: the qualification of their companies and products, their professional fairness, their commitment to research and experimentation in the field of aesthetics and in that of technologies. The fair is not open to the public. Visitors to PROPOSTE ACCESS THE FAIR ONLY IF INVITED by the Operative Secretariat of the same fair, and rigorously chosen among the following categories: Textile editors, Producers of upholstered furniture, Wholesalers, Wide distribution chains, Converters, Contract operators. A visit to the stands is an opportunity to see the latest trends in the best of European textile production, thanks to the renewed and increased commitment shown by the exhibitors in facing the real difficulties that exist in every country today. Proposte has always been a true preview and so, during the event, the stylists and decorators appointed by the organisers will identify the salient features of the collections which, as always, will then be described in a press release because they will constitute the future trends in interior textiles. The industrial strategy underlying the success of Proposte is based on three specific aspects. Firstly, the winning research-development-creativity-textile design-innovation mix. Secondly, the constant research conducted on world markets and corresponding sales channels. Thirdly, the attention given to culture+art, in support of Proposte’s core business – interior textiles. Parà looks forward to receiving its visitors in Cernobbio, certain that its 17 year story of success will again be renewed through the meeting between the most qualified European textile entrepreneurs and the world’s most influential buyers.

R+T ASIA: PARA’ PRESENTS ITS DISTRIBUTOR FOR SOUTH EAST ASIA

R+T ASIA, the International fair for doors, roller shutters and sun protection, held in the brand new exhibition complex of Shanghai from 24th to 26th March 2009, has just closed with excellent results for Parà. In view of the continual commercial development in this area, which is considered a market in constant growth, Parà has shown off its fabrics for sun protection. Its stand was projected in collaboration with its partner Naizil and this was an occasion to introduce, for the first time, its own Asian distributor SunHing. In light of this experience, we can confirm that R+T is the only Asiatic platform for this sector. It has proved to be the most important stage for both sellers and buyers, which makes it a “must” for the future. See you in Shanghai for the 2010 edition.

PARA’ TECHNICAL SPONSOR OF OUTentico

Outdoor outfits, items, and furnishing are only part of OUTentico, the exhibiting event that SUN, the International Exhibition of Outdoor Products, in collaboration with T&T, was invited to organize at the premises of the Architects’ Association of the Milan Province on occasion of Fuorisalone (April 22-27). According to the indoor-outdoor merger philosophy, the event develops through concept-based isles in the location’s déhors and continues in the rooms inside the historical building in downtown via Solferino 19. The cooperation between SUN and the Association results into a range of prototypes, products non-products, conceived by archistars and young Outdoor Design talents. Because the outdoor concept is not a recent invention. What is new is its interpretation, a product of man’s creativity: the germ of design is something recent, an object of formal and material experimentation, of fluid creativity, imagination and geometric rigour. This interpretation challenge was internationally appreciated during the latest Exhibition of Outdoor Products, and will be even more successful in the next one, with new ideas, names, experiments, and visions. This is why SUN Fuorisalone is a surprising interpretation process, a great conceptual effort, an unusual design step and, particularly, a window open on future outdoor design. A varied, surprising, authentic approach that includes the results of a design originating from a reinterpretation of outdoor archetypes through modern prototypes, reviewed and adjusted according to the present functional requirements, aesthetic tastes, and material innovations. Moreover, the unique showcase offered by SUN will provide a selection of the winners of an international competition dedicated to young outdoor design talents. Being free to express their creativity, with no limits tied to technology, materials, language, size, dimensions, or sector, they designed, modelled and requested the production of brand new pieces, enforcing their creativity and genuineness on the companies. Great. And equally great is the selection of items conceived for the occasion by 11 of the most outstanding architecture studios from all over the world, and manufactured by 13 globally renowned companies. An experiment dedicated to an unexplored theme of outdoor design: furniture fit for use throughout the year, at all times, in all seasons and conditions, that implies a transformation into different objects and uses, a combination between accommodation and protection. For oneself and for all, without compromises. Companies, talents, archistars, and universities believed in the direction set by SUN as a privileged interpreter of the aesthetic languages of the new lifestyle and a forerunner of time and space versatility. A unique Fuorisalone, focused on experimentation and design, pursuing the signs, dreams, and symbols of boundless design conceived for outdoor living. A Fuorisalone under the banner of authenticity. OUThentic, in fact.

Boston is the name and it is a fabric made up of 90% silk and 10% cotton, BUT 100% Made in Italy. It is produced by Arazzo, a company of the Para' group, and it has been selected by the designer that the new President of the U.S.A. has entrusted to upholster the Oval office. TEMPOTEST PROTAGONIST AT R+T STUTTGART 2009

Has just ended with 60.000 specialized visitors coming from the 5 continents and 750 satisfied exhibitors, the R+T 2009, the triennial fair for doors, rolling and sun protection. 5 days of business in a sector which seems going through the crisis at head high. In the previous 2006 edition the exhibitors were 545 and the visitors 54.117. This means a meaningful increase decided also from the visitors coming from the foreign countries which this year were 50%. The major part of them arrives from our country, followed by European contiguous countries; but significant has been also the presence of the so-called “emerging markets” such as Russia, China, Brazil and India. With a 500 square meters stand reproducing the Coliseum, Parà has lived the fair as a leading actor. At the entrance of Halle 1, the most important, was not possible not to see immediately the Tempotest totem, 8 mt. high. The major point of Parà has been the “Italian spirit” and the eco-compatibility of the company. We received historic and potential customers, coming from all over the world. Our guests has been entertained with Italian wine and speciality from our country in order to have the opportunity to “do business” in a pleasant atmosphere. Being us “World’s champions” also this year we gave as gadget the soccer ball with the Tempotest logo and the Italian flag, gadget which has been absolutely “sold like hot cakes”. Big success also for the new TEMPOTEST STAR, new fabric made of 100% polyester created for the big structures and presented right at Stuttgart. Parà thanks all the people who has gives an important contribution for the good result of such successful event and makes a date for everybody at Stuttgart for the next R + T 2012.

NAVALTEX : FABRIC AND MARINE JOINED TOGETHER FOR INNOVATION.

NAVALTEX is the result of a workshop which as agreed that high tech products in the fabric sector can inspire marine construction. The Italian textile industry is the International leader in matching fabrics to fashion and home furnishings. Moreover, the Italian ship building industry dominates the world market of passenger liners and mega-yachts. Both sectors are a perfect example of Made in Italy of a world-wide skill but, up to now, fabric and marine went their own separate ways. NAVALTEX promotes this synergy by covering the whole production ranging from the textile manufacture to the ship building industries. Specialised textile companies of small and medium size, as well as big International groups, are taking part in the project: e.g. Ermenegildo Zegna, Sinterama and Arazzo-group Parà Tempotest. The main sector is represented by well known reliable companies such as Azimut-Benetti and Fincantieri. NAVALTEX is a motivating experience. In the current economic crisis we are proud to show, with the support of other important operators in the sector, that the Italian textile sector can create new projects and offer concrete proposals with a view to future market developments.
